Application of 800℃ High-Temperature Chain Oil in High-Temperature Baking Lines

When chains operate under conditions exceeding 300℃, the base oil in the chain oil, whether mineral or synthetic, will inevitably evaporate, albeit at different rates. Currently, the maximum operating temperature for synthetic base oils does not exceed 280℃. However, most chain oils, when used in high-temperature environments, tend to produce carbon deposits, coking, and other high-molecular residues, as well as dry powder-like substances. These residues can hinder the effective operation of the chain, leading to jamming, elongation, or even breakage.

Therefore, for lubrication in environments above 280℃, it is recommended to use high-temperature chain oils that contain solid lubricants. However, many of the conventional chain oils with solid additives on the market have solid components that are merely dispersed in the liquid phase. After some time, they tend to precipitate and separate, thus failing to provide good dispersion and penetration.

1.Situations with Process Temperatures Exceeding 500℃

Conventional chain oils cannot meet lubrication needs at temperatures exceeding 500℃. In cookware production, the baking temperature for aluminum pots exceeds 550℃, while for stainless steel pots, it can reach up to 650℃. Customers need to coat their cookware with Teflon, which has a curing temperature of over 380℃. Conventional chain oils rapidly evaporate at these high temperatures, making it difficult to penetrate the pins and bushings, leading to carbon buildup. Prolonged use under these conditions can cause the chain to operate in a dry friction state, increasing the risk of chain breakage and negatively impacting the quality of the products in the oven.

2.Production and Lubrication Process

  1. Cookware is coated with Teflon.
  2. The cookware is conveyed into a high-temperature baking oven via a chain.
  3. Chain oil is applied at designated lubrication points by brushing or using an oil cup.

3.Issues Faced

  • Ordinary high-temperature chain oils cannot withstand the 500℃ environment, evaporating quickly upon entering the baking oven and failing to provide lubrication.
  • The high ambient temperature easily damages conventional oiling equipment, and manual application in such harsh conditions makes timely lubrication difficult.
  • Operating the chain in poor or even non-lubricated conditions increases the risk of accidents, significantly affecting product quality and reducing the yield rate, which is unacceptable in production assessments.
  • The cost of chain maintenance and replacement remains high.

4.Solution

For production processes exceeding 300℃, in addition to using high-temperature synthetic base oils, it is necessary to add solid lubricants to the oil. Once the base oil penetrates the lubrication points and completely evaporates at high temperatures, the remaining solid additives form a dry film lubricant, preventing direct contact between rollers and bushings, as well as between pins and bushings, thereby providing effective lubrication.

PAG as a Carrier for Solid Lubricants
  • Coomcool Chain HT OV 800 high-temperature chain oil uses ester-based oils as the base oil, which has extremely low evaporation losses. It is combined with special solid lubricants specifically designed for ultra-high temperature lubrication processes.
  • To address common issues with manual brushing, such as uneven application and untimely lubrication, our engineers have designed a specialized aluminum-shell oil cup, effectively mitigating the impact of high-temperature environments on oiling equipment.

5.Results

Over a period of three years of continuous use, no chain breakages resulting in downtime have occurred. This product meets the lubrication requirements of chains under extremely high-temperature conditions.
